As we read Hebrews 12:1-2 we get a clear picture of Jesus. What Jesus had to endure was considerable. The unique glimpse we get from these verses is why Jesus was able to put up from so much. They joy set before him. Jesus saw you and endured the worst life had to offer: The worst conditions (no place to lay is head), reputation (rejected by those he came to save), standing (was falsely accused), and death (worst execution created). On top of that for a moment Jesus was forsaken by God himself. It doesn't get worse than all that. Why would Jesus endure so much hardship? Because he saw you. You are the joy set before him.
Where is your focus? The writer of Hebrews tells us to fix our eyes upon Jesus because he is the author and perfecter of our faith. As Jesus saw you and saw joy, what are you looking at? Does your joy come from your identity in Christ, or the ease of your pain and suffering? We often struggle and or flat out give up because we lose sight of joy. When our joy is placed in the right place, in Jesus, there is a ton we can withstand. See the joy. It makes all the difference!
