Sunday we camped on Zephanaiah 1:12 where God searches for those who are complacent. We discussed the importance of being intentional in our relationship with God, as well as other relationships. Complacency brings destruction to relationships. Good enough or just taking it easy sometimes sounds good, but in many cases it is not. The solution is to be intentional as relationships are mortal. So what does this look like with God?
God looks for humility and a repentant heart, not perfection. Perfection is through Jesus. God gets we are not perfect. Here are some things to think through on avoiding the complacent trap. First, own your junk. Realize you're not perfect and call it for what it is with God. Second, work out your salvation with fear and trembling. This is the Christian equivalent of "treating every gun as if its loaded." Don't let imperfection be an excuse. Become the best you you can be. Fourth, don't take yourself too seriously. We can be so focused on working out our salvation to avoid complacency that we forget to rest in God. Fifth, set persisted and consistent smaller goals. Work omg a couple of things at a time. This habit over time will produce a wealth of holiness.
