As we read James 1:2-4, the word for endurance varies. ESV states steadfastness. This is a lost art and one that is not too popular to speak about. While the Christian life ends in victory, peace, and security, in the meantime the call is for enduring hardship. We too often run from life being hard and unfair instead of embracing it. Of accepting victimhood instead of overwhelming conquerors that Romans 8 speaks of. We must build up our endurance muscle.
When we fight against building up endurance, we actually fight against God. This is not exactly a winning proposition. 1) God wins. 2) God uses endurance building circumstances to refine and make you and better you. Ultimately it is a faith exercise of trusting God's plan and the outcomes He desires. It is embracing hardship as a challenge to glorify God. So seek to do good while all things are contrary. Or as Habakkuk writes, the just shall live by faith.
